Within a career that spanned 40 years, Sri Lankan architect, Geoffrey Bawa came to be regarded as one of the most respected and inspired architects in the world. Bawa excelled in building in a natural environment, creating spaces that blended the outside with the inside. A principle force behind a style of architecture known as 'tropical modernism', Bawa carried much of these ideals into the old Madurai Club.

Geoffrey Bawa Room
In the 1970's the renowned Srilankan architect Geoffrey Bawa built the club house on the grounds of the officer's bungalow, Using honey colored granite, materials and artisans from within 20 miles of Madurai he created a landmark Bawa structure. Where can you chance upon a welcoming space that is more suggestive of a suite, these spacious rooms have a light and airy ambience yet cosset you in lavish comfort.
Deluxe Club
Maintaining a finesse that is quintessentially 'Heritage', these modern rooms surprise you with terracotta flooring and traditional ambience. The 24 Deluxe rooms are spread over 600 sq.ft each, with red tile flooring from the 1920's, teak wood furniture and large windows. The window lattices remind the traveler of popular Art Deco architecture. The Deluxe rooms open out onto generous verandas that overlook the lawns.
